Suspended Ceilings

A suspended ceiling is a secondary ceiling, hung below the main (structural) ceiling. It may also be referred to as a drop ceiling, T-bar ceiling, false ceiling, grid ceiling, drop in ceiling, drop out ceiling, or ceiling tiles and is a staple of modern construction and architecture in both residential and commercial applications

They are installed for many reasons which could be aesthetic (hiding rough areas above or creating a beautiful finish), acoustic (requiring a protection level of a certain decibel rating), environmental (hide/pass services such as ductwork, pipes, cables etc) and to provide a level of fire protection within a room

Metal Frame Ceilings

A series of grid lines are created using hangers and track that are suspended from the underside of the area above and is more commonly used in commercial developments to pass services above. This then forms the base to attached plasterboard and then apply a final plaster skim coat. Areas can be created to allow for the fitment of air conditioning units, lighting and fire protection. Acoustic values can be met using various hangers and fixing methods, insulation and plasterboard type

Grid Suspended Systems

Using lightweight grid and hanger systems, it is easier to fix and adaptable with it being infilled with various different “tiles” meaning they can be lifted and removed to change or make amendments above the ceiling as and when required compared to the metal frame ceiling. It can be suspended at any height and is a cheaper option
